About

I’m Nicholas Powell, an architectural designer and educator based in Olympia, Washington. I hold a Master of Architecture from Washington State University and currently teach architectural engineering and design at Clover Park Technical College.

My work is grounded in an interest in the relationship between architecture, people, and place. I’m particularly interested in housing, urban design, sustainability, adaptive reuse, and the social forces that shape the built environment. I approach design as both a technical and cultural practice- one that requires an understanding of construction, history, technology, and the everyday experiences of the people who occupy our buildings and cities.

My background spans architectural design, drafting, digital visualization, construction documentation, graphic design, web development, and education. This range of experience has shaped the way I think about design across scales, from buildings and environments to visual communication and digital experiences. As both a designer and instructor, I value curiosity, clear communication, and the ability to move between broad conceptual thinking and the practical realities of how buildings are made.

I’m especially interested in work that asks how architecture can respond to changing social, environmental, and economic conditions while creating places that are useful, durable, and meaningful.
